sthlmflex: Market-based TSO-DSO coordination through regional flexibility market

Svenska kraftnät, Ellevio, and Vattenfall Eldistribution had launched sthlmflex to test a regional flexibility market in the Stockholm area to bridge the capacity gap that can be experienced during winter months.

The sthlmflex project is unique because it takes place in the largest region in Sweden and it involves two regional DSO’s and the TSO. The project seek to find a way to enable the continuing growth of the region by providing a smarter distribution system. The project seeks to recruit flexibility service providers (FSP) to participate in live tests during the winter season of 2020/2021.

This research and development project has contracted with NODES to operate the market. Coordination between TSO and DSO is a key element of the project and NODES will offer a market-based coordination alternative, as well as integration to the TSO mFRR market.
