FlexGrid is an EU Horizon 2020 project which started in October 2019 and is to be concluded in September 2022. It is coordinated by the National Technical University of Athens.

FlexGrid is a novel smart grid architecture that facilitates high RES penetration through innovative markets towards efficient interaction between advanced electricity grid management and intelligent stakeholders

FlexGrid develops an API consisting of NODES market platform as core element for flexibility trading and market access connected to three different tools, each one designed to facilitate and/or optimize the user specific strategic planning, cost optimization and congestion management using advanced mathematical models, algorithms as well as market-relevant data in real-time. Connected to the NODES market platform the research focus lies on:

• Optimized algorithms for the aggregation of flexible assets and the calculation of retail pricing
• Optimized algorithms to minimize ESP’s OPEX (or CAPEX)
• Advanced market clearing algorithms for DSOs to calculate nodal prices
• Market-based congestion and voltage management at DSO level
